Do Not Let Your Past Cast Doubt On Your New Appointment—COYLIB Tells New EC Boss
29.06.2015 LISTEN

Coalition of Young Liberals (COYLIB) congratulates Mrs Charlotte Osei on her new appointment as the head of Electoral Commission of Ghana.

We welcome the new status in good faith and have every confidence that with your appointment Ghana stands a better chance of deepening its democratic credentials in the continent and the world at large.

We feel elated to have you as the first female to take up this generalist position. However, without having a trait of "statistics" in your aforementioned degrees, we will encourage you to familiarise yourself with figures as declaration and pronouncement of election results cannot be sullied with errors.

The enormity of the task that lies ahead as Ghana prepares for election 2016 requires that you play a neutral role and discharge your duties accordingly without fear or favour by ensuring that the nation continues to enjoy the peace and stability.

COYLIB entreat you to improve the electoral system in accordance with the Supreme Court rulings and reform the bureaucratic system associated with your new office by eliminating the “dark room" mysteries and allow transparency to prevail.

In respect of your accolades from the Presidency as an institutional reformer, we are by this publication craving your indulgence of taking a proper cue from past elections marred with over voting and irregularities, and avoid a repeat in future elections in the country.

Mrs Osei, your success as the new head of the Electoral Commission will depend on how your actions in next year’s election do not lead the country into anarchy and chaos.
