The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof John Evans Attah Mills, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of exihibting double standards on its fight on corruption.”When it was clear that they had disappointed Ghanaians on the campaign against corruption, the President went out to say that corruption has been in existence since Adam and Eve to justify their shortcomings,” he said.

Prof Mills was addressing supporters of the party at a series of rallies organised at Ogbojo, Nmai Djor, Ashalley Botwe and Amrahia, all in the newly-created Adenta (Kpeshie Gonnor) Constituency, near Accra at the weekend. He was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Naadu Mills, his campaign manager, who is also the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr Joshua Alabi; the former Minister of the Interior, Nii Okaija Adamafio; the parliamentary candidate for the area, Lt. Col. (retd) Kabu Davies and other party stalwarts

Addressing artisans and market women of the Light Industrial Area at Ogbojo, which was his first point of call, Prof. Mills accused the government of going against its own policy of 'zero tolerance for corruption' and then turning round to chastise the NDC for having run a corrupt government. He challenged the government to provide names of any of their ministers implicated in any bribery and corruption case that had been investigated and put on trial', asking that 'do we have two sets of rules, one for the NPP and the other for the NDC?'

Prof Mills therefore called on the government to pursue, with vigour and tenacity, those allegations levelled against their ministers, in the same vein as they did in their “Kumepreko” and other demonstrations when they were in opposition. He also expressed disappointment at the government's attitude towards the Aveyime Quality Rice Project.

According to him, the machines and other equipment on the farmland have been left at the mercy of the weather, referring to that as a clear evidence of causing financial loss to the state. He therefore called on Ghanaians to hold the NPP government responsible and accountable for the wastage.Prof Mills dismissed the accusation that the NDC was planning to overthrow the government using mercenaries and also cause mayhem, should the NDC lose the forthcoming elections.

"That is the last thing we will do but I want to assure the NPP government that they will go out of office, but not by the barrel of the gun or force but by the thumb. They shall be voted out!" he stressed.

He promised Ghanaians that if the NDC was voted back to power, it would address the economic and social disparities and make living conditions bearable, especially, keeping the prices of social services from sky-rocketing.Mr Joshua Alabi on his part, introduced Lt. Col. Kabu Davies (retd), to the supporters.
