Takoradi, Sept. 6 - GNA - The former Western Regional Minister, Mrs Lily Esther Nkansah was on Saturday elected as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate to contest the Takoradi Constituency seat in Election 2004.

She polled 131 votes to defeat Dr Crosby Mochia, a Medical Practitioner, who got 30 votes in an election conducted by the Electoral Commission (NEC).

This was after Mr Fiifi Sangari, another contestant, had withdrawn his candidature at the eleventh hour to set the stage for a straight contest between the two.

Mrs Nkansah thanked members for the confidence reposed in her and pledged that if elected, she would not let them down. She reminded them that the task ahead was Herculean and, therefore, urged all members to work hard in their campaign in order to ensure the victory of NDC in the Takoradi Constituency.

Mrs Nkansah advised the supporters of the Party to exercise patience and to conduct their campaign in a more civilised, convincing and peaceful manner.

She called for the full support of Dr Mochia and Mr Sangari in the Party's fight to wrest power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Both Dr Mochia and Mr Sangari promised to lend their full support to Mrs Nkansah to enable her to win the Takoradi seat massively. Addressing the delegates earlier, Colonel Kaku Korsah (rtd), NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ellembele Constituency, said most Ghanaians had regretted for voting the NDC out of power, adding that in view of the harsh cost of living facing Ghanaians today, most of them were yearning to bbring back the NDC to power.

He said no amount of bulletproof vehicles imported into the country could threaten or deter members of the Party and Ghanaians from voting massively for the NDC.

Mr Korsah advised NDC supporters to intensify their campaign without any fear of intimidation and harassment to ensure that the party won the general election convincingly.
