Press Statement By The Ghana National Union Of Polytechnic Students (gnups) On The Disturbances On The Sunyani Polytechnic Campus.

19.06.2015 LISTEN
By GNUPS

The leadership of the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) has learnt with huge surprise the developments on the Sunyani Polytechnic campus and it's attendant issues.

We wish to state that though students have the right to express their grievances, it should not be done at the point of violence. The National Secretariat of GNUPS is by this statement calling on all students at Sunyani Polytechnic to calm down and return to their normal academic activities as the Union intervenes on their behalf to ensure that their concerns and demands are addressed accordingly.

We further want to assure the students of our resolve to ensure that their rights are championed in all matters but they also should be reminded of their responsibilities of being law abiding citizens and use the appropriate laid down structures and procedures in seeking redress. By this, we ask the students to be respectful towards the law enforcement agency (the Police) in their duty of maintaining peace, law and order on our campuses and in the society in general.

In furtherance, the National Secretariat of GNUPS on behalf of the students wishes to appeal to the Police Service in Sunyani also to as a matter of professionalism handle the issue with apt to obviate any likely eventuality. In as much as we acknowledge their efforts so far, we equally are disgruntled for the conduct of some of the police officials. It must be noted that the intervention of the police in matters such as this should necessarily be targeted at bringing calmness and not to rather seek to conflagrate an already worst situation.

Let the law be followed and there shall be peace.

God bless Ghana.

Signed.
