TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF THE LATE “NANA KWABENA BOAKYE AMPOFO II” BY THE MACHO MEN FOR GOOD AND JUSTICE

“… Almighty maker of my frame
Teach me the measure of my days.
Teach me to know how frail I am;
And spend the remnant to Thy praise; Amen!!”
If the greatest oracle of life had ever predicted an early demise of the great man (Nana Kwabena Boakye Ampofo II) whose mortal remains lie before us today, all of us “The Macho Men For Good and Justice” would have hooted in utmost disapproval to show our entrenched belief in the enormous courage, vigor and bravery of the founder and leader of our Association.

He was a mere mortal with all the potential flaws in him as human; but his show of courage in the face of all odds was and will remain a virtue that can never be taken from him even in his death.

Before most of us had the opportunity of coming into physical contact with him in mid-2010 during the formation of the United Movement for Change (UMC) a non-political organization which sought to unite all open minded Ghanaian citizens for a crusade in aid of the total reconstruction of Ghana’s political construct, Nana Nico’s name was already a household name to most of us within the body building fraternity especially those of us in the Ashanti region.

We believe that many minds of all and sundry gathered today would recall the incident involving His Royal Majesty Otumfour Osei Tutu II and Nana Takyiman hene; an occasion that called for the show of true courage and bravery in rewriting the supremacy of the great Ashanti kingdom in modern times. It was Nana Boakye’s pleasure at the time to quickly mobilize true men within the Kingdom of Ashanti to resound the voice of the King (Otumfour) towards the restoration of sanity.

This he did at the danger and expense of his precious life just for the love of country and his people. It was therefore not a surprise to us at all when in 2011 his voice was loudly heard calling all of us body builders as well as all energetic youth across the nation whose energies were being misdirected by some political entities to brutalize many innocent Ghanaians to come together and to say NO to all forms of violence ahead of, during and after the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Upon hearing the trumpet call of Nana, most of us could hardly understand his mission and vision as the livelihood of most of us depended on the mercies of these political entities as mentioned earlier but Nana Nico explained to us the need to leave that kind of life behind and to re-channel our energies towards nation building and defense of the weak and poor in society instead of perpetrating injustices for the pleasure of certain politicians just for a meal. This idea we all bought into and thereby played the significant role which is known to many Ghanaians including most of those gathered here.

To see his dream and vision materialize, Nana Nico at a point had to trade off some of his personal belongings (pieces of gold and parcels of land) to cater for the then intense financial challenges facing the Association. This had then become inevitable because most civil society groups, corporate organizations, religious bodies and private individuals who had pledged support for the group during its inception had all failed; leaving the whole responsibility of managing, feeding and sustaining men of our caliber on the shoulders of this man (Nana Nico).

Nana was selfless, he was kind, and was much focused and passionate about every vision he ever had during his lifetime. All these virtues we believe, translated into his ascendency onto the throne of chieftaincy.

Nana you came and trod this earth plane life but for a season. You sought and found the combatants of this life; and in your own little but highly significant way, fought fiercely as a true valiant and prevailed a hero in your own right. We the executives and members of the Macho Men for Good and Justice pledge our resolve to hold in high esteem, the priceless gift of virtues and ideas you pursued and to hold fast to them until we have made the vision you shared with us a reality. We promise that never would any of us within this noble Association betray your legacy by aiding in the perpetration of violence and brutality in the name of political struggle for power.

We are most grateful to you for your selfless sacrifices which have redeemed most of us from the abyss where we used to be and restoring us to fit into society again. Your legacy and vision for us and for Asanteman and Ghana at large lives on as your noble name does; NANA KWABENA BOAKYE AMPOFO II.

Now the laborer’s task is over,
Now the battle is done.
Oh Jesus precious Lord,
In Thy gracious hands do we now commit-
Thy servant sleeping!
Nana,
Damirifua Due.
Oheneba,
Damirifua Due.
Due ne amane hunu!!!
