JUN 18, 2015 LISTEN

The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), with a mission to remain Africa's foremost examining body, providing qualitative and reliable educational assessment, encouraging academic and moral excellence and promoting sustainable human resource development and international co-operation; in my opinion has remained a laughing stock over decades now.

In reference to their press release on June 17th, 2015 about the cancellation of some examination papers of the June 2015 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), I personally find their actions laughable and see them as incompetent leaders whom are supposedly to be in charge of their so called mission.

A big institution like WAEC cannot manage their staffs, keep them in check and make sure that, no one in their utmost position what so ever will not be able to sell and leak examination papers to the general public with the sole benefit of making some bumper money in their bank accounts. This habit of examination cancellation has gone on for ages now, yet nothing has being done about this and they keep on making candidates lives miserable with this action.

I cannot blame them much though, since most of the entire Africa continent leaders have no idea what they are doing in respect to their various state positions.

Considering the situation in Ghana, we live in a country where even the basic necessities of life cannot be met. Unemployment rate keeps increasing leaving graduates at bay; shortage of food; inadequate shelter; working without being paid on time; utilities such as electricity, water and gas is nothing to write home about. We've been living in a country where students cannot even get access to electricity to aid in their studies and preparation for examination. Almost all of us at some point in our education career had to light a lantern or candle to get us through our revisions and preparation for both internal and external examination.

I am very dismay at WAEC for the recent cancellation of the June 2015 Junior High School examination. These our younger brothers and sisters worked their asses off to had come this far and only to have these incompetent WAEC executives ruined their lives once again. Chaos has taken over the entire WAEC and I know no matter the hullabaloo the general public will make, it's not going to change anything. But the question here is, until when will this disgusting and unsatisfactory attitude from the WAEC offices come to an end? They set the questions, sell them to make money and release to the general public, watch and let candidates work restlessly to write the papers and then cancel the examination.

The most devastating thing is that, the government has to pop in huge funds which could have being used to pay workers and for development purposes to the whole process again because of the incompetence and selfishness of some few people who could easily be sacked but rather the general public suffers from their actions.

There is luck of accountability, check and balances among Africa leaders so I guess this is what we will always get. We make everything about politics, family, friends, tribe, who you know and as a result we do not use the right people for the right work and hence our suffering since evolution.

Until we change our attitudes, perceptions, ignorant behaviors and face the facts; Africa as a continent will forever remain in the shadows of the world.

It's better late than never and good luck to our BECE candidates!!!
