Accra, Aug.31 GNA - Mrs. Elizabeth Owusu-Bennoah, Proprieties of Bekdan Academy, on Tuesday called on the Government to ensure that pre-school centres were attached to all basic schools in the rural areas to provide equal learning opportunities to school children.

Mrs. Owusu-Bennoah who was speaking at the third graduation ceremony of Bekdan Academy at Old Ashale Botwe, near Accra said due to the lack of this facility in some rural areas, children there could not compete favourably with their counterparts in the urban centres.

The ceremony, which attracted many parents and guardians, who witnessed the graduation of 24 pupils who have completed their pre-school education.

The school, which was established about four years ago, has turned out many products that are doing well in other basics schools. Mrs Owusu-Bennoah said many children in the urban areas went through early childhood education, thereby laying solid foundation for them before they entered basic school.

She appealed to parents to visit their children's schools regularly so that they could be abreast with developments there and to support teachers to ensure effective teaching and learning.

Mr Edward O. Nsenkyire, Chief Director of the Ministry of Environment and Science, whose speech was read for him commended the management and staff of the school for their untiring effort in providing the children with sound education.

He called for responsible parenthood since that plays an important role in the upbringing of the child.

Mr Nsenkyire also advised married couples to be faithful to their partners to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS disease since that could have a disastrous effect on the future of the child.
