Armajaro (AGL) company limited has taking a keen steps to introduce to it prestige farmers to organic cocoa certification program at Nyinahin, in the Atwima Mponua district of the Ashanti region.

The training is to equip farmers, to effectively engage in the production of organic cocoa production which will help produce forth, healthy cocoa seeds for human consumption.

The head of operations for AGL Mr. Richard Suwli, speaking at the occasion said, the training is also aimed to meet the increasing demand for organic cocoa products, especially in the high-income countries.

According to him, this will help address the increasing concern about food safety, health, environmental and social welfare issues bothering many others globally, about artificial crop produce.

He said, organic farming is agriculture that makes healthy food, healthy soils, healthy plants and healthy environments, a priority along with crop productivity, adding that, "the benefits of organic farming are widespread and important to multiple sectors of society".

Mr. Suwli emphasized that, biological fertilizer inputs and management practices, such as cover cropping and crop rotation methods, are mechanism to improve soil quality and build soil organic matter, in organic food production.

"It as well helps to protect water bodies by using biological forms of fertilizes that slowly reduces nutrients, and reduccng nitrate leaching into ground and surface waters". He stated.

According to him, as part of Ecom/AGL eagerness to improve the livelihood of cocoa farmers and ensuring sustainable production of quality cocoa, the farmers have been introduced to different certificate programs of international standards, thus, UTZ (Good inside), Rain Forest Alliance, Fair trade among others.

However, Mr. Richard Suwli confirmed that, the company in partenership with Ghana cocoa board and cholate manufactures, through Source Trust, over the past five years has invested over 5 million dollars in various farm improvement and rural livelihood projects across the cocoa producing regions of Ghana.
