... for the Disabled at Summer Celebration

More than 5,000 Wheelchairs Donated at the Event A Procession That Would Stretch Nearly Four Miles

SANTA ANA, Calif., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Free Wheelchair Mission's second annual summer event at Strawberry Farms Golf Club last month was attended by more than 300 people and generated more than $200,000-5,000 wheelchairs-in support of the non-profit organization's vision to provide the transforming gift of mobility to the physically disabled in developing countries. Champion for the disabled and passionate supporter of Free Wheelchair Mission, His Majesty Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin, King of a 2.5-million member tribe in the eastern region of Ghana, served as guest speaker for the event. Far surpassing the initial goal of raising $150,000, Free Wheelchair Mission Founder Don Schoendorfer, announced that following the event, donations continue to come in via the ministry's website, largely due to the attention received from "People Magazine," the "Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine," radio and television stations. "Dreams are being fulfilled and thousands of people are gaining mobility," Schoendorfer said. "Take a moment to visualize watching the miracle of such a life change-a procession of 5,000 recipients in our wheelchairs stretching for nearly four miles! God is awesome, and we are mightily blessed to be aiding His efforts to aid the poor." An investment of $41.17 will provide the gift of mobility, dignity and the opportunity for a better life for just one physically disabled poor person in a developing country. Since 2001 more than 24,000 wheelchairs have been distributed in 37 countries including Afghanistan, Angola, Bosnia, China, Egypt, El Salvador, Fiji, Ghana, Haiti, India, Iraq, Liberia, Peru, Rwanda, Zambia, and others. Free Wheelchair Mission's goal in 2004 is to raise $3,000,000 and deliver 75,000 free wheelchairs throughout the world.
