Paga (UER), Aug. 24, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday re-elected by popular acclamation, Mr Abuga Pele, Member of Parliament (MP) for Chiana/Paga, as its Parliamentary Candidate for Election 2004.

Mr Ben Akaara, Constituency Chairman of the NDC, who was also contesting the seat, stepped down for Mr Pele to be declared unopposed. Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, a Leading Member of the NDC, appealed to members and supporters of the main opposition Party, to forge unity to ensure victory in the forthcoming General Election.

He said the NDC was on a warpath to recapture political power and this called for personal sacrifices from supporters.

Alhaji Iddrisu said the economic hardships the ruling NPP, had imposed on Ghanaians would create favourable conditions for NDC to win the elections.

Alhaji Mohammad Mumuni, MP for Kumbungu, said road projects being inaugurated by President John Agyekum Kufuor were initiated by the NDC administration.

Mr Pele Abuga, who is running for the third time as a parliamentary candidate, described the 2004 elections as a "marathon race" between the Flag Bearers of the NDC, Professor John Evans Atta Mills and President Kufuor Kufuor of NPP.

"We are waiting for the referee to set the pace for us for Professor John Atta Mills to overtake President John Agyekum Kufuor." He advised the electorate to discard the notion that voting for the Party in power would give them development.

Mr Pele thanked the constituents for the confidence reposed in him and gave the assurance that he would work harder than ever to bring more development to the Constituency if re-elected.
