President Kufuor ends WR tour

Accra, Aug 20, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Friday ended his five-day tour of the Western Region.

President Kufuor who was welcomed by enthusiastic crowds in all the towns he visited addressed durbars of chiefs and people in the areas and acquainted himself with the socio-economic development and the implementation of the Government policies and programmes.

Eight out of the 12 districts in the region he visited were Juabeso, Bia, Sefwi-Wiawso, Aowin-Suaman, Jomoro, Wassa Amenfi, Nzema East and Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai.

President Kufuor addressed durbars at Aiyinase, Axim and Half Assini where he also inaugurated a Ghana Television Transmitter to serve the area for the first time since the inception of television in Ghana, in 1965.

He also inaugurated a 300 million cedis Mothers' Hostel for the Government Hospital at Bibiani.

Other towns President Kufuor visited were Elubo, Enchi, Dadieso, Sefwi-Akontonbra, Sefwi-Wiawso, Sefwi-Asawinso, Sefwi-Wiawso, Sefwi-Bekwai, Essam, Juabeso, Bibiani, Asankrangwa, Manso Amenfi and Wassa Akropong.

During the tour, President Kufuor appealed to the chiefs and the people of the region to have faith in the policies and programmes of the government because the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would not let the nation down.

He assured the people of a free, fair and peaceful elections and warned that the Government would not tolerate anyone who wanted to create any problem during the electioneering period.

The chiefs commended the Government for the increases in the producer price of cocoa and the mass cocoa spraying exercise but appealed for more inputs such as fertilizers and insecticides to increase yield.

They stressed the need to rehabilitate roads as well as the provision of better health care facilities, schools especially Senior Secondary Schools and telecommunication facilities.
