Accra, Aug. 19, GNA - Ghana is to host the 52nd Afro-Asian Rural Development (AARDO) Executive Committee Meeting from August 23 to August 26 to deliberate on impact of micro financing schemes in poverty alleviation.
Over 50 delegates would attend the Accra Conference from 28 member countries -13 from Africa; 14 from Asia and an Associate member country, Mr Daniel Amadu Nyankamawu, Acting Chief Director of Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, told newsmen at a media briefing in Accra on Thursday to announce the conference.
He said AARDO's, an autonomous inter-governmental organisation established in 1962, main objective was to assist member countries in Human Resources Development, Financing of Development Projects and Dissemination of Information.
The Accra conference would also focused on the vision of AARDO for the future especially in the area of macro-level financing.
The meeting, which is the 52nd Session of the Executive Committee, would deliberate on coordinating efforts in promoting the eradication of hunger, poverty, illiteracy and diseases among rural population in AARDO member countries in Africa and Asia.
It would also serve as a platform to coordinate efforts of member countries towards poverty eradication in Africa and Asia. Ghana would be hosting the Executive Meeting for the third time after it had hosted the AARDO's 33rd and 34th meetings as well as its 10th General Conference.
The Organisation, which has it headquarters in New Delhi, India, is made up of 27 member countries and Ghana has been a member since its inception in 1965.
It has assisted Ghana financially to establish a number of projects and it is currently assisting the Twifo-Heman-Lower Denkyira Assembly in the Central Region to build a day care centre at Twifo-Heman.
The organisation is also helping Bolgatanga Weavers, Bonwire/Dumakwai Kente Weavers and Aburi Wood Carvers and Batik Cooperative Society to build their capacity in entrepreneurial and managerial skills and technology transfer in their respective micro-projects.
