Bolgatanga, Aug. 18, GNA - Mr Rex Asanga, a contestant in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the Bolgatanga Constituency, has called on his supporters to campaign and vote for the Deputy Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways, Dr Adombire Geyshika Agambilla, who defeated him.

Speaking at a meeting in Bolgatanga to plan strategies to rally support for the Party, Mr Asanga praised his supporters for their tireless efforts in canvassing for him prior to the primaries, accepting the shocking results and remaining calm and tolerant in spite of provocations.

He said the Party was supreme, adding: "I wish to call on you to burry any differences and throw your weight behind the Party and Dr Agambilla to win the seat in the forthcoming Parliamentary and Presidential elections."

Mr Asanga, who is also the Assembly Member for the Kulbia Electoral Area, noted that, the Bolgatanga seat was strategic and warned that nothing negative should be done to whittle the fortunes of the Party, citing backbiting, bickering and differences as some of the negative things that should be discarded.

He implored his supporters not to relent in the campaign process but use every resource available to the benefit of the Party: "Let us all resolve to put the interest of the Party first, before any other interest because there is the need for us to stay united."

The meeting, which was attended by the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Rockson Ayine Bukari, was widely speculated to be a public relations strategy adopted by Mr Asanga and the MCE to clear the air about speculations that they were masterminding a campaign against Dr Agambilla.

Mr Bukari debunked speculations that he had directed supporters of Mr Asanga to campaign against Dr Agambilla and said the Party was supreme and that as the MCE he was duty bound to ensure that the Party's manifesto was successfully manifested in the area.

He said the campaign during the primaries between the two candidates contributed immensely to making the Party popular in the area and that as the Party was held supreme, there was the need for the youth to eschew bickering, gossiping and self-centred motives and be united to campaign vigorously for victory in the Parliamentary and Presidential Elections, come December.

The MCE reminded the youth about the availability of loans to be accessed at the Assembly and urged them to form cooperatives and set up genuine businesses to access the facility.

He further reminded them of HIV/AIDS and urged them to extend the education on the pandemic in their campaigns.

At the Party's primaries held in Bolgatanga, Mr Asanga, who works with the Catholic Relief Services in Bolgatanga, polled 35 votes while Dr Agambilla obtained 81 votes.
