CPP elects parliamentary candidates for 29 constituencies in Ashanti

Kumasi, Aug. 17, GNA - The Convention People's Party (CPP) has held constituency conferences at which it elected 29 candidates to contest Election 2004 on the ticket of the Party in the Ashanti Region. A release from the Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the Party, signed by Mr Kwabena Anim, the Regional Secretary, said the Secretariat had so far received the names of 19 out of the 29 candidates.

He named them as Sophia Afrakoma Owusu, an Assistant Director of Education, New Edubiase Constituency; Agnes Donkor, Trader, Kwabre East; James Kobina Seota, Senior Agriculture Projects Officer, Fomena; Kwabena Anarfi, Tutor, Asante-Akim North; Augustine Obeng Apau, Lecturer, Amansie West and Sampson Ampem, Businessman, Asante-Akim South.

Others are Adom Ben Arnold, Forester, Afigya-Sekyere East; Kofi Adu Poku, Businessman, Kumawu; Kwame Annoh, Businessman, Adansi-Asokwa; G.K. Appiah, Businessman, Subin; Daniel Essien, Assistant Lecturer, Kumasi Campus, University of Education Winneba (UEW), Kwadaso and Can Sakyi, Hotelier, Oforikrom.

The rest are Kwame Appiah Boateng, Management Consultant, Nhyiaeso; Yaw Owusu Boafo, Educationist, Bantama; Eugene Alex Ohene Darkoh, Farmer and Educationist, Manhyia; Andrew Kofi Asamoa Akoto, Building Contractor, Old-Tafo; and King-Hassan-Bin-Abdullah Abu Bong, Businessman, Asawase.

The release said the Regional Secretary at a special meeting with the candidates, charged them to step up their field organisation at the polling station level to ensure that supporters and sympathisers of the Party turned out to vote massively in December.

Mr Anim told the candidates that they would be given the required assistance to campaign.

He reminded them of the massive support the CPP now had in Ashanti and urged members to rally solidly behind the Party and vote for the candidates.
