Accra , April 10, GNA - The Pan-African Writers' Association (PAWA) has hailed the Nigerian Government and people of the country for their historical display of political maturity in the just ended presidential elections.

The Association said it was pleased with the way the people of Nigeria demonstrated an inspiring level of patriotism and national unity before, during and after the elections.

A statement signed by Professor Atukwei Okai, Secretary-General, PAWA and copied to Ghana News Agency said: "PAWA is proud of the display of responsible leadership by President Goodluck Jonathan before and after the elections.

'His statemanly actions in embracing publicly his electoral competitor, General Muhammadu Buhari, and his timely congratulations of his opponent, sent a clear and emphatic signal that national elections need not plunge a country and its people into violence, chaos and tragedy.

'Indeed the conduct of President Jonathan and General Buhari has for the good of the country portrayed them, as father figures and shown the level to which they have placed country above partisan interests', the statement stated.

The PAWA congratulated Nigerians and welcomed the President Elect General Buhari.
