Agortime- Kpetoe Chiefs contest the capital for Adaklu -Anyigbe District

Kpetoe (V/R), Aug. 13, GNA - The Chiefs and People of Agortime-Kpetoe on Thursday renewed their appeal to the Government to consider Kpetoe as the capital town of the newly created Adaklu-Anyigbe District.

Nene Nuer Keteku III, Chief of Agortime-Kpetoe, who addressed a press conference at Kpetoe, said the controversy over the choice of a district capital could have been avoided if the issue were decided objectively.

The Chief said during the First Republic, Agortime-Kpetoe was the headquarters of the Anyigbe Local Council comprising the Ziope, Agortime and Adaklu Traditional Areas.

Between 1963 and 1966, the three traditional areas were under one Administrative District Commissioner, who was resident at Agortime-Kpetoe.

It was also the constituency headquarters of all political parties since the Second Republic with the requisite infrastructure. Nene Keteku said resources that would be used to provide infrastructure for the new capital at Adaklu-Waya could have been saved for pressing developmental problems in the District.

He said Agortime-Kpetoe has good roads linking it to both Adaklu and Ziope.

Nene Keteku said in December 2002, a Committee constituted by the Ho District Assembly that included the Paramount Chief and the Queen mother of the Adaklu Traditional Area recommended Agortime-Kpetoe to be the District capital of the proposed Ho-East District Assembly.

"I want to emphasise that the new District Assembly must take-off on the right footing," he said.

Nene Keteku suggested that the new District should be designated as either Ho East District Assembly or Adaklu-Ziope-Agortime District Assembly.

Nene Keteku expressed the hope that President John Agyekum Kufuor would soon make a definitive statement on the issue "to set all tongues at ease".
