Dutch Gov't invests in water, road and transport sectors

Accra, Aug. 10, GNA - The Dutch Government is providing a 40-million Euro facility to cover various projects in the water, road and transport sectors.

The grant would also partly finance the provision of 250 buses to ease the transportation problems in the country.

At a meeting with the Dutch Ambassador, Mr Aric Van der Wiel, in Accra on Tuesday, Dr Richard Anane, Minster of Roads and Transport, said additional funding would be secured to finance these projects.

He said part of the 40 million Euros would be for the reconstruction of a stretch of 116 kilometres of the Sefwi Wiawso to Osei Kojokrom road in the Western Region.

An additional 14 billion cedis from the Ghana Government and a loan from a bank in the Netherlands was would be sourced to complete the road project.

Work on the road is to begin before the end of the year with the first phase estimated to cost 24.5 million euros.

On the provision of the 250 buses, the Dutch Ambassador said the buses were being built and their shipment into the country would begin in the months ahead.

Mr Van der Wiel said the Dutch government has over the past 10 years invested about 450 million euros in various projects in the country.
