The Ministry of Lands and Forestry has since January this year recruited 11,500 workers for nationwide plantation projects including urban forestry.

Three hundred and fifty of the workers were employed in the Brong Ahafo Region alone. Prof Dominic Fobih, Sector Minister, announced this in Sunyani when he inspected the Sunyani and Fiapre urban forestry component of the government's Plantation Development Programme as part of his three-day working visit to the Brong Ahafo Region.

He said the programme had not only reduced the unemployment problem facing the youth of the country, but would also beautify the nation since some of the trees were being planted along the highways.

He urged opinion leaders in the region to take concrete measures to modify annual rituals and customary rites that promoted bushfires in the area.
