Ho, Feb. 12, GNA - Oil and Gas programmes in Ho Polytechnic must focus on service vocations rather than engineering, Mrs Beatrice Mensah-Tayui, Chief Executive Officer of Cybele Energy, said on Wednesday.

She was interacting with the top hierarchy of the Ho-Polytechnic with indications of possible co-operation between the two entities towards running a programme in oil and gas in the polytechnic.

Mrs Mensah-Tayui commissioned a set of modern carpentry equipment worth 400,000 dollars which she gave to the Carpentry Department of the polytechnic.

She said there were several opportunities in the services sub-sector of the oil and gas industry to be grabbed but cautioned that competency in that sub-sector would take more than three to four years to acquire.

Mrs Mensah-Tayui said oil and gas programmes in tertiary institutions must focus on the international market, at least the African market rather than localized.

She, therefore, urged the Ho Polytechnic to ensure that its students were 'shovel-ready' for the challenges and opportunities in that sector.
