Vice President arrives in the Gambia for anniversary

Banjul, July 21, GNA - Ghana's Vice President, Alhali Aliu Mahama, arrived in Banjul, Gambia on Wednesday, to participate in the 10 years anniversary of President Yahaya Jameh, as Head of State of that country, which falls on Thursday.

The vice President who inspected a Guard of Honour mounted by a contingent of the Gambian National Army, held brief discussions with his host, President Jammeh at the VIP Lounge at the Gambian International Airport.

Vice President Mahama introduced Mr Justice Allan Brobbey, who would soon assume the position of the Chief Justice in that country to President Jammeh.

Professor Christopher Ameya-Akumfi, Minister of Railways, Ports and Harbours , Alhaji Rashid Bawa, Minister of state, Education, Youth and Sports, Mr Akwasi Osei-Adjei, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affaires, Mr Abraham Osei Aidoo, Deputy Majority leader in Parliament and other public officials accompanied the Vice President who would be in Gambia for three days.

As part of the celebration, the junior national team, the Black Starlets, would join 11 other teams in an international peace football match, aimed at fostering friendship among the youth in the West African Sub -Region.

The Presidents of Senegal, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Guinea Bissau were also in the Gambia to participate in the celebration and those of Cape Verde, and representatives from other African leaders were expected to join their colleagues.
