GJA delegation off to African Media Festival

By GNA

Accra, July 21, GNA - The Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr George Frank Asmah, has left Accra for Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, at the head of a two-man delegation of the Association to attend the African Media Festival, which opens on Thursday.

The other member of the delegation is Ms Augustina Pik of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.

A statement issued by the GJA on Wednesday by Mr Bright Blewu, General Secretary, said the two-day meeting is aimed at evaluating the performance of African media and their contribution to the development of the Continent.

The festival being organised by the Congo Press Association (Union de la Presse Congolaise) would coincide with the award of the Tolerance Prize of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).

The prize is about promoting tolerance, combating racism and discrimination as well as contributing to an understanding of cultural, religious and ethnic differences.

The recipient of the prize is chosen through an annual competition organised by the IFJ through the submission of entries.

Its main objective is to promote better understanding among Journalists on the importance of tolerance and defence of human rights, particularly when it comes to reporting on minorities.
