The NPP’s Hypocrisy On Madam Fathia Nkrumah

21.07.2004 LISTEN
By IC4

IC4, the International Campaign Coordinating Committee for the CPP, has written to prominent Black groups and progressive groups in the diaspora to re-assure them that the Nkrumah family are committed to the CPP and the aims and objectives of the CPP, and that Dr Kwame Nkrumah's eldest son Dr Francis Nkrumah, his widow Mad. Fathia Nkrumah and her three children Gorkeh, Samia and Sekou are totally committed to the ideals of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The IC4 letter reminded all about the UP treachery and terrorism against the CPP which ultimately lead to Madam Fathia becoming a widow and her children fatherless..

The letter read - “In less than a year after independence, after three defeats at the polls- 1951, 1954 and 1956 - four prominent members of the UP – the ruling NPP Government's predecessor party, were involved in either undermining the stability of the new Ghana or planning a coup to overthrow the CPP government. In November 1957, only eight months after independence, S.G. Antor and Kojo Ayeke leading UP supporters were arrested and charged with complicity in the Alavanyo riots in Transvolta Togoland, which took place while the independence ceremonies were being held. In 1958, Modesto Apaloo and R.R. Amponsah (General Secretary of the N.L.M., and later the combined opposition parties, UP.) were implicated in plotting the first coup in the new Ghana with Captain Awhaitey, Commandant of the Giffard Camp (now Burma Camp).

Dr. J. B. Danquah was also implicated in the plot against the CPP The Granville Sharp Commission's report found “that Awhaitey, Mr. Amponsah, Mr. Apaloo and Mr. John Mensah Anthony, were engaged in a conspiracy to assassinate the Prime Minister, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and carry out a coup d'etat “.

The IC4 letter went on to say that “ though we would like to welcome the NPP government's sudden soft spot for our illustrious Dr Kwame Nkrumah and all his great works for Ghana, Africa and Black People, we have considerable grounds apart from history to be suspicious.

The December elections in Ghana for one , and the cynical manipulation of the National Reconciliation Commission process for another. Whatever the NPP's motives there is a simple solution which we can summarise thus:

· The NPP and their forbears together with the NLC should show genuine contrition for the terrible wrongs wrought against Ghana and the CPP, starting from an admission that the CIA inspired treasonable overthrow of the Nkrumah government was plain wrong.

· They accept that their ugly gestures are aimed at destroying the CPP and the Nkrumaist legacy because it is a present and continuing threat to their mismanagement and lack of strategic ideas about how to take Ghana forward “

IC4 assured all the groups that CPP , Nkrumah and his ideals shall never die and that they should support the CPP till victory in the coming elections.
