Sekondi, July 20, GNA - A Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on Monday imposed a 500,000 cedi fine on Seshie Cyril Donne for failing to renew his driving licence.

The accused pleaded guilty.

The court also granted a 500,000 cedi bail to the accused for driving above the approved speed limit after he had pleaded not guilty to the charge and will re-appear on August 9.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Isaac Okyere said at about 1140 hours, on July 15 this year, the accused drove past Ohiamadwen community on the main Takoradi-Cape Coast road in a Mazda pick-up at a speed of 64 kilometres per hour (KPH) instead of the approved speed limit of 50 KPH. He said personnel of the Motor Traffic Unit of the Ghana Police Service arrested the accused for over-speeding and demanded his driving licence.

Police Inspector Okyere said when the accused produced his licence, it was detected that it had expired in February 2004. Donne told the court that he had not been able to renew his licence because he travelled outside the country.
