He said the conflict in the area is not only affecting economic activities in the two neighbouring communities but also thwarting national security efforts as government has to always mobilize security personnel to the two communities to restore law and order.

Vice President Amissah Arthur made the appeal at a crunch meeting at Kpando between the two feuding paramountcies in search of a lasting solution to their century old conflict.

Vice President Amissah Arthur therefore emphasised that while government is determined to resolve the land dispute and will equally deal with the criminals causing fatal harm to people and properties once and for all.

The Ankobeahene of Nkonya Wurupong, Nana Apem Darko said skirmishes which have resulted in the killing of innocent people have nothing whatsoever to do with the land dispute.

For his part, the Paramount Chief of Alavanyo, Togbega Tsedze Atakora said peace is possible.

At Alavanyo Kpeme and Nkonya Tayi, Vice President Amissah-Arthur said the government will soon take over the disputed land between the chiefs and people of Alavanyo and Nkonya and turn it into a Military Training Camp.

The processes for acquisition are underway in order to end the 300 years of the land dispute which have resulted in the death of many people from the two communities.

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, said this when he interacted with the more than 200 military and police personnel stationed in the two communities Accompanied by the Volta Regional Minister, Helen Ntoso, the IGP Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, the General Officer Commanding the Southern Ghana, Brigadier General Sampson Adeti and the National Security Co-ordinator, Yaw Donkor.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur's first point of call was Alavanyo Kpeme. Brigadier General Adeti on his part said the security personnel are determined to increase their patrol activities to maintain law and order.

He said efforts are underway to provide facilities for the personnel in order to reduce the high level of fraternisation between them and members of the two feuding communities.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur said the government will soon begin the construction of permanent infrastructure in the two communities to start the process of turning the disputed land into a military training camp. He said the Alavanyo - Nkonya conflict is not only a drain on the economy but also on national security.
