Scrap dealer removes school roofing sheets for sale

Tema, July 17, GNA- A 20-year-old man who removed three pieces of aluminium roofing sheets valued at 270,000 cedis from a school block and sold them has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Tema circuit court 'B'.
Mohammed Salifu pleaded guilty.
Victor Amevor, a 25-year-old scrap dealer who was in the dock with him charged with dishonestly receiving, pleaded not guilty and was granted 20 million cedis bail.
Inspector Teye Matey, prosecuting, told the court that on July 6, the head teacher of the Mustapha Islamic Basic School at Ashaiman found that three pieces of aluminium roofing sheets had been removed from the school building.
The head teacher conducted investigations and found the roofing sheets with the scrap dealer who told him that it was Salifu who sold them to him at 180,000 cedis.
Inspector Matey said the case was reported to the Ashaiman police and Amevor led the police to arrest Salifu who admitted the offence. Salifu told the court that he committed the offence because he was hungry, the prosecution said. 17 July 04
