Accra, July 16, GNA - The National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Friday endorsed Mr Albert Korsi Ziga as its parliamentary candidate-elect for the Ketu South Constituency for the December election.

It therefore called on all supporters and members of the party in the constituency to refrain from acts, which may dissuade the party from concentrating on the main business of retaining the seat.

The party's endorsement comes amid comments from some party members and supporters that Mr Ziga is a "bookman" and therefore cannot represent the constituency in parliament.

A statement signed by Mr Baba Jamal, NDC Deputy General Secretary, said the party's executives had concluded that delegates at the Ketu South Constituency legally elected Mr Ziga.

"The National Executive Committee of the NDC has considered the sentiments and petitions of some supporters of the party in connection with the election of Mr Albert Korsi Ziga as parliamentary candidate for Ketu South constituency.

"(It) has come to the conclusion that Mr Ziga was properly and legally elected overwhelmingly by the delegates at the Ketu South constituency and therefore endorses him as the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Ketu South Constituency."

The statement said: "The NDC is not amused" by comments that describe Mr Ziga as a "bookman" and therefore could not represent the constituency in Parliament.

"The NDC is a mass grassroots party that embraces people from all walks of life.

"The popular election of Mr Ziga gives credence to the character and nature of the party, which has endeared it to the electorate over the years."
