Obuasi, July 16, GNA - More than 200 kindergarten pupils in Obuasi on Thursday undertook a three-hour route march to create awareness about the importance of pre-school education and the need for parents to take good care of them.

The route march, which started at the district education office compound and ended at the district assembly, formed part of the Adansi West district pre-school week celebration.

It is being celebrated under the theme: "Mobilising Parental Support For Effective Pre-School Education".

The placard-bearing pupils used the march to send a lot of appeals to stakeholders, especially parents to support them in their pre-school education as well as their well being.

Some of the placards read: "Parents, Take Good Care of Us", "Parents, Feed Us Before We Go To School", "Yes, Parents Should Mobilise Support for Pre-school Education" and "Pre-school Children Need Special Care".

The District Chief Executive, Mr Joe Boampong, commended the children for creating the awareness through the route march. He said pre-school education was very important since better foundation for formal schooling started from the nursery and kindergarten levels.

Mr Boampong emphasised the importance of education and appealed to parents to invest in the education of their children.

The District Pre-School Co-ordinator, Mrs Kate Agyeman-Badu, stressed that, it was the responsibility of parents to prepare their children well before they are sent to school.

She expressed regret that some parents neglect their roles and allow their older children to take care of their younger ones leading to "poor feeding, no bodily care and lack of parental love and care".

Mrs Agyeman-Badu reminded stakeholders in education about the wisdom in community participation in school activities and appealed to the public to support pre-school education.
