Ejura (Ash), July 6, GNA - Madam Elizabeth Owusu, Ejura-Sekyedumase District Chief Executive, has stated that President John Agyekum Kufuor had been a successful leader as a result of his patience and tolerance.

These virtues shared by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, had helped the Government to change the nation's fortunes through good governance.

Madam Owusu was addressing over 200 senior citizens at a get-together organised for them by the assembly at the residency at Ejura as part of activities marking the Republic Day celebration. The DCE intimated that the Government had declared and demonstrated its willingness to foster democracy but cautioned the opposition parties not to misconstrue the Government's liberal democratic principles for weakness.

She pointed out that the Government had absolute powers to deal with lawlessness and irresponsible acts and, therefore, appealed to all Ghanaians to conduct themselves responsibly in order not to fall foul of the law.

In a related development, the district assembly at Asante-Mampong also feted 150 Senior Citizens in the Sekyere West District. Oheneba Ata-Osei, aged 112, believed to be the oldest citizen in the District and a coffin seller, who graced the occasion and shared the secret behind his longevity with the Ghana News Agency said regular exercises and good diet accounted for is long life.

Mr Thomas Edward Atakorah, the Sekyere West District Chief Executive, urged the Senior Citizens to impart to the younger generation uprightness, patient and tolerance. 6 July 04
