Bekwai (Ash), July 6, GNA - The Bekwai constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday at Bekwai Ashanti, unanimously endorsed Mr Jonas Owusu-Boateng, a former Presiding Member of the Amansie East District Assembly as its parliamentary candidate for Election 2004.

Mr Owusu-Boateng was the sole candidate, who filed his nomination to contest the parliamentary seat, and was, therefore, given the nod. Addressing the delegates after the election, Mr Alex Yaw Poku, Deputy Ashanti Regional Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, asked the Party's polling agents to be committed and to remain vigilant on the polling day.

He reminded the Party's supporters that in spite of the assertion that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had not performed creditably, it was not going to be easy for the NDC that was why he had told all the supporters of the Party had a responsibility to contribute towards its success in December elections.

Nana Poku Frefre, Constituency Chairman of NDC, appealed to the supporters not to leave the job of campaigning to the parliamentary candidate alone but to team up with him.

Mr Owusu-Boateng expressed his gratitude to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work tirelessly to help the NDC win back power in December.

He also pledged to break the myth that the Bekwai constituency was the preserve of the UP Tradition.
