Tamale, July 5, GNA- The turnout of candidates at the Ghana Secondary School, Tamale, for this year's Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) was very impressive. The examination began throughout the country on Monday.
The school, which is also serving as an examination centre for the Tamale Girls' Senior Secondary School (SSS), presented 590 candidates made up of 470 boys and 120 girls, while the Tamale Girls sent 40 girls to write the Oral English.
Mr Iddi Wuni, Supervisor at the examinations centre, who is also the Headmaster of the Ghana Secondary School, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on Monday.
He said to avoid any examination malpractices candidates from the two schools were grouped in two batches and kept in separate examination halls with invigilators from the two schools supervising the examinations.
Security at the examination halls was adequate with policemen supervising the orderly packing of the examination materials after the close of each examination paper.
When the GNA talked to a number of the candidates, they expressed confidence that they would perform well.
At the Tamale Secondary School Examination Centre, 588 final year students made up of 211 girls and 377 boys took part in the Oral English.
Last year the school presented 335 students for the examinations. Mr Lordson Afedo, Regional Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and a Supervisor at the centre said the candidates wrote the first paper when the school had not yet received pencils from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). He said the WAEC called the centre on telephone to collect its allocation of pencils after the students had finished the paper. 5 July 04
