The Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan has confirmed Tuesday Seventh December as the polls day for the 2004 Presidential Elections.

The 2004 general elections would be the fourth successive general elections to be held under the fourth Republic of the nation.

President John Agyekum Kufuor would complete his first term of office on January 6th 2005 after he took over four years ago from Jerry John Rawlings who has served two terms under the fourth republic. EC has also announced September as the registration date of presidential and parliamentary candidates of the various parties and it is obvious that at least eight political parties would be contenting the elections.

The New Patriotic Party NPP, National Democratic Congress NDC, The People's National Convention People's Party, CPP and the Great Consolidated Popular Party, GCPP have already held their congress and have chosen their various flagbearers to face the electorate come December this year.

However, indications are that come what May this year's general elections will not be a free 'chop' for any political party.
