Agogoso (Ash), June 30, GNA - Residents of Agogoso near Nyinahin in the Atwima district have completed the construction of a three-classroom block consisting of an office and store for the local basic school at the cost of 250 million cedis. It was financed through the deduction of one kilogram on each bag of cocoa produced in the area and other voluntary contributions, while the community offered labour.
Mr Kwasi Twumasi, the assemblyman and Mr Kwabena Nkrumah, the unit committee chairman, who led newsmen to inspect the project on Tuesday, said the district assembly assisted with 150 bags of cement and 12 packets of roofing sheets.
Mr Twumasi said the new school block would replace the old and dilapidated junior secondary school block, which he described as a death trap. He expressed concern about the state of the existing primary school block whose walls have cracked and the roofs leaking, making teaching and learning virtually impossible. Mr Twumasi said the residents are financially over-stretched and appealed to the assembly and organisations to provide the community with building materials to put up a new primary school block.
Mr Nkrumah said the residents are mobilising every available resources to execute the construction of the new primary school block, not only to protect the pupils and teachers from possible disaster but also offer quality and uninterrupted education to the children.
