Accra, June 22, GNA - Mr Kwadawo Baah Wiredu, Minister of Education Youth and Sports, said on Tuesday that the National Accreditation Board has been tasked to come out with inputs that would show the equivalence of the Higher National Diploma (HND) in the award of certificates.

He said the committee set up to investigate the issue was also expanded to include the Central Management Board and was charged with the duty of visiting various government institutions and agencies to clarify the issue on job placement for the HND holder.

Mr Wiredu told the Ghana News Agency in Accra after a meeting between the Ministry and representatives of the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) to discuss efforts being made to resolve the issue of job placement in Accra.

Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Mr Rashid Bawa, Deputy Minister of MOEYS, attended the meeting.

Mr Wiredu urged the students to remain calm and go back to the classroom while the Ministry and the various bodies worked out ways of ending the problem.

He said the Ministry needed time to find out whatever lapses that were evident in the system and to make the necessary corrections specifically on certain target areas to get things normalised.

Ms Ohene said there was the need to target the various employers, gather data and discuss the issue at stake.

Mr Frank Kwansah, President of GNUPS, said the students would not go back to the classroom until the issue was resolved. 22 June 04
