Old Ningo (G/R), June 17, GNA - Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ningo/Prampram constituency was on Wednesday declared unopposed as the Party's candidate for the constituency.

His candidature was endorsed at a constituency delegates' conference held at the Presbyterian Church at Old Ningo.

Mr Kwabena Apea Ayeh, Dangme West District Electoral Officer, explained that Mr Mensah was the only person who stood nominated at the close of nomination and so in accordance with the electoral rules and regulations he was declared elected unopposed.

Mr Mensah thanked the members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged that with their support he would work harder to ensure that the area was opened up.

He said judging by the close gap in figures between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2000 elections, coupled with the NPP's failure to fulfil its electoral promises, he was confident that the NDC would win hands down in the impending elections.

He, however, advised the members against complacency and rather, they should remain united and be extra vigilant in monitoring the electoral process to avoid infiltration into their ranks.

Mr Mensah said the NPP thrived on misinformation because it did not even appreciate the developmental projects that the NDC carried out through out the country.

The MP noted that the populace had had the opportunity to compare the administration of the NDC and the NPP and asked the people to return NDC to power to enable it to continue with its good governance as against the poor rule of the NPP.

Mr Joe Adjaho, MP for Avenor called on loyal members of the Party to remain steadfast and continue to sacrifice their time to work for it to come back to power and noted that committed members could now be seen since the Party was in opposition.

He said this was a crucial time when all loyal NDC members should rally behind the NDC parliamentary candidates and vote massively to return the party to power.

Mr Adjaho said the NPP had failed the nation with it poor governance that had created economic hardships and had also not been able to fulfil its electoral promises to the nation.

He said the Volta Region remained the "World Bank" of the NDC, adding that it had fortified the area to such an extent that no other party could take it from them, adding: "Volta Region is still in the hands of the NDC".

Mr D.T.W. Nartey, Ningo- Prampram Constituency Chairman of NDC enumerated the projects such as the proposed international stadium, a bridge yet to be completed among other things so far carried out by Mr Mensah that merited his being returned to parliament.
