Feature Article Muslims Begin Journey To Makka Land Of Peace, Tranquility And Happiness—Imam Toure
SEP 27, 2014 LISTEN

As happens annually, about 5,000 Ghanaian Muslims have flown to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to begin their pilgrimage to Makka and Madina. The pilgrims were conveyed by Nas Air of Saudi Arabia, a journey that was considered very smooth and peaceful. Throughout the world from all continents, there is expected the largest gathering of people (among them kings, presidents, businessmen and commoners) to perform the hajj.

Travel by air is a departure from the ancient means of travel to perform the hajj pilgrimage by foot, road transport and by camels and horses. The pilgrimage to Makka was begun by the Holy Prophet Mohamed (PBH) when he was alive 1400 years ago. Since then it has become a traditional means of worship by Muslims across the globe. Indeed it has become one of the five pillars of Islam

In a Friday Hutba (sermon) Mallam in connection of this year's (2014) pilgrimage , Mallam Ibrahim Toure, the Imam of The Ashongman Estates Mosque in Accra enjoined all Muslims who have the means to perform the hajj pilgrimage at least once in his or her lifetime. He said the pilgrimage to Makka and Medina during the annual period of pilgrimage is a realization of one of the main pillars of Islam. He described the holy cities in Saudi Arabia as safe havens where peace and stability prevails the whole year round.

He began his sermon by saying;

Asalaam Alakum,

My topic today is on Makkah, the city of peace, the secured city, the city of clemency, the city of protection and the safe city: Allah (swt) honored the city of Makkah in the Arabian Peninsula and made it a city of peace tranquility and happiness. Allah saved it, blessed it and protected it from all types of atrocities and invasions.

Hajj Mohammed Amin Lamptey the publicist of the Ghana hajj council being flanked by Ghanaian female would be pilgrims.

Before Islam, the city of Makkah was a city of pilgrims for trade and for poetry. It was respected by Arabs before Islam. Allah swt made his first house of worship in Makkah namely the Kaaba; and he made it a place of blessing and Guidance to mankind.

Allah (swt) also informed us that he made those places sacred and safe while people around the world do not experience safety. People everywhere in the world are passing through turmoil and troubles while people in Makkah are enjoying the happiness of being protected by Allah (swt). They are indeed in good hands.

Dear Muslims,
We are supposed to respect Allah (swt) and to obey him. We are to respect all the of worship especially the city of Makkah, the sacred house of Allah and the kaaba itself.

We should make sure that Muslims who go to Makkah are going for the love of Allah (swt); they are to demonstrate their love, respect, adoration, worship, loyalty, obedience, and allegiance to Allah (swt)

No Muslim is expected to go there for the sake of political demonstration. No one must go there to politicize his political leaders; no one is supposed to praise anyone except Allah (swt) while in Makka.

The motto and slogan of all Muslims in Makka during the pilgrimage and at all times should be…… laila haillallah Mohammed rasulullah. There is no Lord worthy of worship except Allah (swt) and Mohammed is his messenger
