Accra, June 16, GNA - The Management of AngloGold Ashanti on Wednesday said steps were being taken to ensure environmental protection and maintenance of the company's assets at the Siguiri mine in Guinea. A message, received from the Corporate Affairs Department of the Company attributed to Messrs Alan Fine, Shelagh Blackman, Kwaku Akosah-Bempah, James Anaman and John Owusu said on May 26, AngloGold Ahsanti issued a statement that the government of Guinea had placed an embargo on all imports and exports by the Siguiri mine.

The statement said since that announcement, constructive discussions have commenced with the Guinean government and the supply of diesel to the mine has resumed.

It said the embargo on the export of gold from the Siguiri mine remained in place.

The statement also said the impact of the continuing embargo on the mine's operations has been brought to the attention of the government.

It said AngloGold Ashanti was using its best effort to bring the undesirable state of affairs to a speedy and satisfactory resolution.
