Four NPP members to contest in Nkoranza North primaries

Busunya (B/A) June 14, GNA - Four members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the Nkoranza North Constituency of Brong-Ahafo have declared their intention to contest the Party's primaries to select its parliamentary candidate for Election 2004.

They are Mr Edmund Kwaku Baffoe, a Teacher of the Nkoranza Secondary/Technical School; Mr Prince Kwame Fosu Adjei, Chartered Accountant; Mr Effah Baffoe, an Engineer at the Ghana Water Company Limited and Mr Eric Amoabeng, Nkoranza District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO). Dr Yaw Kudom, Chairman of the NPP in Nkoranza, announced this when addressing NPP supporters at Busunya at the weekend, during which 77 delegates were selected to vote to elect the Constituency Executives. He noted that the aspirants had been visiting the communities to introduce themselves and to interact with them on their plans for the development of the Constituency.

The Chairman lauded their decision, which, he said, was "in the right direction in politics" as they were effectively marketing themselves to the electorate.

Dr Kudom advised the aspirants to guard against negative practices or attitudes that could create confusion or disturbances among the people in the communities, as that would have an adverse effect on the development of the newly created Constituency.

He announced that nominations were opened for all interested NPP members who wished to contest in the primaries in either Nkoranza North or Nkoranza South Constituencies.

Mr Adu Yaw Abdulai, who was elected Chairman of the Nkoranza North Constituency, called on Party members and supporters to forge ahead in unity so that they could carry out effective programmes to enable the Party to win the seats.

He urged the aspirants to guard against the use of provocative language during their campaigns to avoid triggering quarrels and confusion among the people.

The Constituency Chairman noted: "Since every person is fallible, members of the Party should do well to point out and help correct the mistakes of the Executive members so that they can perform creditably." In another development, Nana Okofo Nyarko Gyabaa, Chief of Busunya, Headquarters of the Constituency, has advised political party leaders in the area to educate their members to comport themselves during this election period.

Nana Okofo Gyabaa said the creation of the new Constituency in the area "is a test for the people and there is the need for all to show maturity and be disciplined to ensure that all activities carried out in the constituency are peaceful and successful. "The youth of the various parties should not quarrel among themselves as any negative behaviour from them as well as any misdemeanour would put the name of the constituency into disrepute and this would affect its development", he said. Nana Okofo Gyabaa advised the people not to be divided by partisan politics, saying before the formation of the various political parties they were living together peacefully in their communities.
