Security Services in the country to be strengthened
Accra, June 10, GNA - The Ministry of The Interior and the Ghana Police Service have put in place strategies to improve management of security network and ensure a safer and more peaceful co-existence in the Country.
Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang made this known in Parliament on Thursday in an answer to a question by Mr David Mensah, NDC- Atebubu North, as to when the Ministry would upgrade the Atebubu District Police station to the status of a Division.
The Minister said an amount of 79.6 billion cedis would be needed to upgrade the entire District Police Station to Divisional status. He said the upgrading would take cognisance of the population and size of the area, economic activities and the magnitude of criminal activities in the area.
Mr Owusu-Agyemang explained that creation of a Divisional Police Station would not affect the District Police Station adding that the work of a Divisional Police Station may go beyond a political district. He said the Atebubu District was one of the areas where consideration was being given to upgrade to Divisional status adding that efforts were being made to improve upon the state of the District Police Headquarters as well as other Police Stations in the District. Mr Owusu-Agyemang said: "The Wenchi Divisional Police command would continue to be responsible for the Atebubu Police District."
He called on traditional authorities, District Assemblies and business enterprises in the area to support the Ghana Police in that direction. 10 June 04
