PANDEMONIUM broke out over the weekend in Osogbo, Osun State capital, when a policeman attached to the State Police Command suddenly fired live bullets to disrupt a wedding ceremony of an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), at an event centre situated along West Bye Pass area.

The development, which precipitated tension around the vicinity, forced many passerby and residents to scamper to safety, with a view to avoid being hit by stray bullets from the enraged policeman.

Credible sources at the scene of the incident informed the news men that in the ensuing melee, one person sustained critical injuries.

One of the eyewitnesses told the news men that “the policeman was passing through the neighbourhood where bachelor eve of the officer (names withheld) was being held and in the process, an argument ensued and the policeman armed at the time, suddenly started firing live bullets into the air.”

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Osun Command of the NSCDC, Mr Ayo Olowe, confirmed the incident, disclosing that the said policeman, after leaving the venue of the bachelor's eve, also came to the state headquarters of the NSCDC and harassed those he found in the premises.

He further explained that the father of the groom, who incidentally is a Commissioner of Police, subsequently came to the NSCDC headquarters and took the policeman away.
