The unyielding commitment of the Edusei Foundation and its founder Dr. Kwame Bawuah-Edusei to place youth education and development at the forefront of its mission was showcased last week with a donation of GHC50,000 to the Western Nananom Education Fund (WeNNEF), the official education fund of the Western Regional House of Chiefs.

At an august ceremony held on the premises of the Western Regional House of Chiefs in Takoradi and chaired by Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, the Paramount Chief for Lower Dixcove Traditional Area, Edusei Foundation director Mr Kwabena Kwaw Boadu Edusei presented the cheque to the education fund along with a special message from the foundation's founder Dr. Kwame Bawuah-Edusei. It is noteworthy that the combination of the donation and the setting up of the managing Trust played a key role in setting up WeNNEF after previous failed attempts.

Mr Kwabena Kwaw Boadu Edusei briefed the gathering of Chiefs about the activities of Edusei Foundation. He first thanked the Chiefs for taking time out of their busy schedule to be there. He gave a brief background of Dr Kwame Bawuah-Edusei and his philanthropic desires.

He also shed light on some of the charitable activities Edusei Foundation had been engaged in since its inception. Lastly he praised Nana Kobina Nketsia V for speeding up the processes and facilitating the formation of a Trust to be in charge of the Fund.

The Edusei Foundation's result-oriented approach to philanthropy was encapsulated by the preceding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the foundation and the Western Regional House of Chiefs, which made further donations contingent upon results the recipients are able to produce from the donation.

In his welcome address, Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX said members of the house were both shocked and elated by what Edusei Foundation had decided to do. He hailed thanks and blessings on Dr Kwame Bawuah-Edusei who through his hard work and good heart had decided to extend a helping hand to others which included the Western Regional House of Chiefs.

He promised that the House of Chiefs will make sure the donation is fully utilized for the intended purpose. He also promised that whatever help is required by Edusei Foundation, the House was willing to lend a reciprocal helping hand as well.

Nana Kobina Nketsia V also spoke briefly on how he was filled with joy when he heard that Edusei Foundation had decided to help the people of the Western Region, especially in areas of education and youth development. He also acknowledged that the decision by the Foundation to help in the setting up of an Education Fund (Trust) was worthwhile as it is charged with managing all funds donated to WeNNEF.

Lastly, he indicated that the effort made by Edusei Foundation to see to it that the donation goes through meant that they were serious about helping the youth to develop and reach their potential in future.

With the Edusei Foundation donation serving as the seed money for WeNNEF, the entire House of Chiefs would impress on every traditional ruler in the region to make annual donations into this new fund. Nana Kobina Nketsia V further promised that the fund will be better managed to attract future donations from other donors.

Representing the Edusei Foundation were Mr Kwabena Kwaw Boadu Edusei (Director for the Foundation), Mr Derrick Oppong-Agyare (Accra Representative for the Foundation), Madam Joyce Afari, Mr William K. Owusu, Olivia Asare, Kwadwo Amoatey, Fredrick Waye, Thomas Kyei, Samuel Baah Tetteh and lastly Mr Lawrence Bruce Kyei, the national coordinator for Edusei Foundation

On hand to receive the Edusei Foundation delegation was a strong gathering of members of the Western Regional House of Chiefs including Chairman for the occasion Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX (Vice President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief for Lower Dixcove Traditional Area), Nana Kobina Nketsia V (Omanhene of Essikado Traditional Area), Osabarima Kwaw Entsie II (Omanhene of Mpohor Traditional Area), and Awulae Agyefi Kwame II (Omanhene of the Nsien Tarditional Area).
