ON MY HUMBLE MIND : A SOLEMN CALL TO DUTY - NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY, LET US ELECT NANA AKUFO - ADDO AS OUR FLAGBEARER

"As a matter of fact it will be in our own interest, our duty to NPP and mother Ghana to communicate to rally support behind the eventual winner of the forthcoming contest to save Ghana from the incompetent NDC administration in 2016. As each day passes our hope for good life increasingly becomes difficulty to reach and illusive.

The mismanagement is shocking and we sit unconcerned at our own peril. We should endeavour to tell a new story to our children. A story of a great nation with great prospects ahead of us but not our father's nostalgic stories about the good old days which only portrays the gloomy future ahead. We share the responsibility to tell this new story."

- A member of the New Patriotic Party.

The 2016 election is not going to be duty as usual. We must and we should see the 2016 elections as a solemn call to duty that need our collective efforts to ensure success.

In every party, society or community, development and advancement have been successful when people respond to the solemn call to duty in very trying moments.

Sacrificing their comfort, resources, and sometimes their personal aspirations in order contribute to the larger interest and development, members of the party, we should continously ensure that the provision of our party's constitution that enjoins us to avoid any acts likely to tarnish the image and reputation of the party are respected.

The campaign and election of our next leader should follow the rules of decent accommodation for the betterment of the party and Ghana. Since the formation of this political tradition, our forebears have been consistent in toiling so tirelessly to ensure that the nation Ghana gets the many different advantages every free society enjoys.

Our fore father's left us a legacy of liberal democratic values for which we should be proud of. Many lost their lives in pursuit of these noble ideals.

The New Patriotic Party traces its roots to the 1940s when our forebears including George Alfred Grant ("Paa Grant"), who was ready to finance the organization of a political movement that finally become the United Gold Coast Convention and founded by J. B. Danquah on 4 August 1947 with chiefs, academics and lawyers, including R. A. Awoonor-Williams, Edward Akufo-Addo, and Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey.

These great men together with many other unsung heroes responded to the solemn call to duty at the time the entire society needed to free itself from colonial domination.

The independence of this country become possible because some people responded to the solemn call to duty. It was unfortunate that these great leaders of our tradition did not have the opportunity to rule this country post Ghana's independence.

The decision to bring Dr. Kwame Nkrumah home to become the General Secretary of the party changed the course history Ghana had envisaged to follow.

Instead of following the model of the Westminster democracy, the leadership of the CPP rather took the Eastern block system of governance. Socialism and communism became our nation's system of governance.

Liberal democratic principles were stifled, freedom of speech and conscience were stifled. The dream of our forebears were locked up and many lost their lives under mysterious circumstances.

In spite of these, our response to the call to a solemn duty have never been in doubt. We have always been able to elect leadership that reflect the heart beat of the party.

The 31st August, 2014 Special delegate election to reduce the number of qualified Aspirants from seven to five presents another call to solemn duty. Our delegates must consider the aspirations of majority of the membership of the party and the country.

All seven Aspirants are great leaders who have had the free and level playing field to reach out to the delegates.

This is obviously a mark of our liberal democratic credentials. Voting is an expression of the a person's freedom to choose from a number of potential and qualified Aspirants. It indicate the direction our party intends to go.

The 2016 election is a greater call to duty to liberate the people of Ghana from incompetent hands of President John Dramani Mahama's NDC government.

Reality is a function of time and space. The time once again is calling for the leadership of Nana Akufo Addo. The political space covered by Nana Akufo - Addo in the party and Ghana is overwhelming and the election of 31st August, 2014 would proof that the NPP is ready to win the 2016 elections.

A name that resonates on the lips of almost every member of the party and majority of the Ghanaian voters, the one man who has been marketed, a man whose conduct and contribution to the party's grassroots and the man the rank and file of the party are glamouring to lead, the man who has been there through and through and the man whose passion to win the 2016 elections is Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo.

Therefore, the election of Nana Akufo Addo is a response to a solemn call to duty. Almost every member of the party who is going to be voting during the special delegate congress has declared support for the leadership of Nana Akufo Addo.

This response to the solemn call to duty would be manifest after the last ballot is declared on 31st August, 2014. We wish all members of the New Patriotic Party to remain resolute, hopeful, calm and peaceful as we wait for the flagbearership of Akufo - Addo once again.

The bigger picture is to win the 2016 elections. We pray that all Aspirants would join hands to ensure that the 2016 elections are won as their response to the call to a solemn duty.

Thank you.
