WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY 2014: Theme, ’More People than Ever Need Help’

20.08.2014 LISTEN
By ABIBIMMAN FOUNDATION

Remember the millions of people affected by war, natural disasters, the deadly Ebola virus, sickness, and famine, and especially those who are working to relieve their suffering. The World Humanitarian Day, is a special day dedicated to Humanitarians and their noble works. Recognize the millions of people who count on us for their very survival

Humanitarian workers have no other agenda than saving lives and delivering the basic needs which are food, water, shelter, medical care, and protection for the most vulnerable. Interestingly, yet in many places where humanitarians are needed, today, they are often targeted. They place their own lives at risk to help others in conflict zones and areas of natural hazards. More than 700 humanitarian workers have died or experienced the most dangerous situations while trying to help those in need.

And the humanitarian community will be on the scene, rushing bravely towards danger, determined to help people in need and increasingly challenged. Added to the complexity, each year, there are new and difficult challenges that will require more flexible funding and adaptable humanitarian work. The increasing economic crisis and global challenges such as poverty, global health problems, increase prices and the rising number of people on the move, upsurges the need for humanitarians. This condition is also reflected on this year's theme, 'More People than Ever Need Help'

Abibiman Foundation salute all humanitarians who have lost their lives and loved ones in the course of their work as well as the thousands of aid workers We will pay tribute to the dedicated men and women who are out there among the vulnerable, providing hope and help. And we will draw the world's attention to the great magnitude of suffering in our world that needs our urgent attention.
