EPL Starts Rolling On Saturday: TV3 To Show Selected Matches

Football lovers, particularly ardent followers of the English Premier League (EPL) will enjoy the new season of the league as it kick-starts on Saturday, August 16; with selected matches to be shown on TV3 at 14:30 GMT every Saturday.

Launching this season's league at the British High Commissioner's residence in Accra on Thursdayand broadcasted live on TV3, the Chief Executive Officer of TV3, Mr. Augustus Dickson, told the gathering and viewers that “your Saturday afternoons will not be the same” as all is set for TV3 to thrill EPL fanswith exciting matches over the next two seasons.

He disclosed that TV3 obtained the rights to telecast the English Premier League following its huge success during the coverage of the World Cup, and the teeming calls on the TV station by its many viewers to bring them the EPL.

Mr. Dickson assured TV3 viewers of more fun-packed programmes and events in the coming weeks.

“I assure our numerous viewers that as market leaders, TV3 will continue to provide unrivalled programmes, particularly in the area of sports. The EPL is just the beginning, as there are many more exciting programmes and events to come so let's all mark the date,” He promised.

He wished all the participating teams good luck, and expressed the hope that his favourite team, Liverpool, will win the league.

His Excellency Jon Benjamin, British High Commissioner to Ghana, stated that the EPL started twenty(22) years ago and was opened to all qualified footballers across the world irrespective of their skin colour, aiming to combat racism.

According to the British High Commissioner, Great Britain is a country with multiple cultural diversities, with football as one of the country's specialized areas.

The English Premier League, he disclosed, embraces and creates opportunities for African players, which makes the EPL a shining example to other premier leagues all over the world on the basis of eliminating racism in football.

H.E. Benjamin, mentioned former Black Stars player, Nii Odartey Lamptey, as a testimony, and stated that currently, there is the 17th Ghanaian playing in the EPL.

He lauded TV3 for being “highly professional” and a wonderful channel, and said the British High Commission looks forward to more lasting relationship with TV3.

The launch also had many football personalities delivering short remarks. They included James Barnes, former Liverpool star; Kwasi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA); Nii Odartey Lamptey; and Sammy Kufuor, who predicted a tough competition between the participating teams because the teams involved are “tough”.
