Corrupt Leadership Is The Cause Of Ghana’s Crisis—NPP Organizer Underscores

The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Germany, Mr Kwaku Anane-Gyinde, has identified corrupt leadership and bad governance as the major factors that under pine Ghana`s current economic crisis.

Addressing a meeting of NPP Ladies in Dusseldorf over the weekend, Mr Anane-Gyinde explained that bad governance practices and poor economic management as evidenced by excessive borrowing, reckless spending, corruption and the payment of fraudulent judgement debts to party cronies is what account for the downward spiral of the country`s economy.

To buttress his point, Mr Anane-Gyinde revealed that between August 2012 and December 2012 the office of President exceeded its budgetary allocation by Gh 600 Million, while the Ministry of Youth and Sports spent Gh 300 Million beyond what it was allocated. He further disclosed that during the same period the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) over spent its budget to the tune of Gh 230 Million.

According to him not only has the Mahama administration been reckless and irresponsible in the management of the country´s resources, it has also borrowed more than all previous governments since independence. From Gh 9 Billion in 2008 Ghana`s total debt stock now stands at Gh 63 Billion which means in just the last five years the NDC government has been on a borrowing spree as a result of which Gh 54 Billion has been added to the debt.

The National Organiser insisted that in the midst of this huge borrowing coupled with additional revenue from oil the Ghanaian economy continues to decline and living conditions of the ordinary Ghanaian have worsened in the last three years adding “ You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realise that the Mahama-led government is simply incapable of managing the economy”

He told the gathering that the only way Ghana can come out of the present economic crisis is a change of government and urged all supporters to close their ranks and rally behind the party to ensure victory in 2016 saying “Ghanaians are waiting in expectation for an NPP government to come and salvage our country from the current economic mess”

Earlier in a welcome address, Miss Eunice Han, Secretary of NPP Ladies in Dusseldorf said the sole purpose of the group is to mobilise human and material support for NPP in the Parliamentary and Presidential elections scheduled for 2016.

She announced that a membership drive campaign is already under way to attract and bring more women into the Party and said “ as Ghanaian women, we are always the first and worst affected victims of bad governance in our country, it is therefore our national duty to ensure that the right people are elected to lead Ghana”

In a message, the Deputy National Women Organiser of NPP-Germany, Miss Cassandra Abroakwa-Lahmer reminded the women that party work requires discipline, commitment and sacrifice adding that although challenges are bound to arise, she has no doubt that they will be able to overcome such challenges.

Miss Abroakwa-Lahmer thanked the women for their initiative and called on other women to join so as to help bring the party into power come 2016
