Burying of differences mean so much for NDC's victory - Alabi

Accra, May 29, GNA - Mr Joshua Alabi, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Greater Accra Regional Chairman on Saturday said the burying of differences such as acrimony and rancour meant so much for the party to reclaim most of the parliamentary seats lost in 2000 elections. "Having been in opposition, we now know and are feeling the sufferings Ghanaians are going through under the New Patriotic Party's government, we therefore, must know that every constituency seat is important," he said.

Mr Alabi was speaking at the Klottey Korle Constituency Delegates Conference to elect the party's candidate for December 2004 Parliamentary elections.

Nii Armah Ashietey, a Lawyer and former Mayor of Tema Municipal Assembly was elected the party's candidate when he polled 142 votes to beat Mr Leeford Quarshie, who polled 80 votes.

Two aspirants, Nii John Coleman and Madam Emilia Holms withdrew their candidature, citing reasons that the interest of the party should always be regarded as the ultimate.

Mr Alabi said, the only way the party could reclaim and win most of the seats was for members to work towards resolving all differences and refrain from all forms of rancour and bitterness because they all belong to one family.

He called for unity among members and supporters of the two candidates saying, "Let us not be instruments for creating divisions among the candidates by urging the loser to stand as an Independent candidate.

"We all are one family and for the beauty of democracy in the party we must exhibit high maturity knowing that the loyalty and interest of the NDC is paramount,"

"A lot of problems are in Osu, the seat of government so the most important assignment before is to win the seat," the Regional Chairman said.

Nii Ashietey, congratulated the members and called on all to resolve all differences, in order for the constituency to solidified itself in canvassing for more votes to reclaimed the seat come December 2004.

He called on the various branches and cells of the party to strengthened their positions and braced themselves for vigorous campaign to win more votes not only for him but Proffesor Evans John Atta Mills, the party's Presidential candidate.
