Photo-taking exercise starts smoothly in Sekondi-Takoradi

Sekondi, May 28, GNA- Registered Voters within the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis on Friday queued to have their photographs taken at most registration centres.

Some of the centres started work as early as 0600 hours. Mr. Edward Dadzie, supervisor at the PWD registration centre said sorting out of forms; photo taking and lamination was cumbersome for two people to handle and appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to send extra hands to assist them.

Mr. Nathaniel Osiban, registration officer in charge of Cassava Farm Centre said they had not experienced any problems except the large numbers of anxious voters who rushed to the place.

Miss Paulina Baidoo of the Anaji Key Primary School Centre said 50 registered voters came and took their photographs as soon as the exercise begun.

She said the centre has enough films and materials to cater for the over 750 people who registered there.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sekondi, Mr Reginald John Amihere, Regional Director of the EC, said the Commission had made the necessary arrangements to ensure an orderly exercise adding, " We have large quantities of materials to last throughout the exercise".

Mr. Amihere urged all registered voters who have not taken their photographs to do so.

The exercise would end on Tuesday June 2.

Meanwhile, the Western Regional Directorate of the National Centre for Civic Education (NCCE) has noted that a number of factors contribute to the success of any elections.

To this end, it said the credibility of the voter registration is very important in many ways.
