Twifo Baakondidi (C/R) May 28, GNA - Five farming communities in the Twifo-Heman-Lower Denkyira district on Wednesday appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES), to post more teachers to the D/C JSS at Baakondidi, the only school serving the town to facilitate teaching and learning.

Mr Abraham Odoom, the District Chief Executive (DCE), who made the appeal at a forum organised by the people in his honour at Baakondidi mentioned Baakondidi, Nyame Bekyere, Last Stop, Tamale and Tafradjoa as the communities that required teachers.

Nana Kofi Issa, chief of Baakondidi, said the indequate number of teachers affected the performance of the pupils of the school resulting in the withdrawal of most of them.

He said though the communities provide accommodation for teachers posted to the school, they "just come to inspect the place and do not turn up agian".

Mr Abraham Odoom, a citizen of Baakondidi promised to rehabilitate the teachers' quarters in the town to promote teaching and learning and urged the people to support the few teachers who have sacrificed to work in the town.

Mr Ernest Brown, Assistant Director, in-charge of Human Resource Management and Development at the central regional directorate of the GES, told the GNA that efforts were being taken to solve the problem. 28 May, 04
