Akwansrem (Ash), May 25, GNA - Mr Kobina Tahir Hammond, Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi-Asokwa in the Adansi East district last Monday, donated a quantity of reading books to schools at Akwansrem. Mr Kwabena Ameyaw, the Asokwa constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who presented the books to the school on behalf of the MP, who is also the deputy Minister of Energy, called on parents and guardians to attach more importance to the education of their children and wards.

He regretted that some parents instead of placing the education of their children over and above the acquisition of material things and funerals, had rather relegated education to the background. Mr Ameyaw reiterated that education was the pivot of any development as well as other aspects of life and should therefore take their children education seriously.

He assured them that the MP will continue to help schools in the constituency with educational materials and asked the pupils to make good use of the books.

Mr David K. Obeng, Adansi East acting District director of education, advised teachers to inculcate in the pupils reading habits for them to make proper use of the books and asked the teachers to take good care of the books.

Mr Anthony Adu-Frimpong, assemblyman for Akwansrem, expressed the town's gratitude to the MP for his efforts to raise the standard of education in the area and advised the pupils to study hard to become useful citizens in future.

Miss Emelia Asantewaa Awuku, headmistress of Akwansrem Experimental Primary School, appealed to the MP and the district assembly for the construction of a pre-school block for the school and iron rods to secure the windows of the school to prevent thieves from stealing school property.
