Bawku (U/E) May 22, GNA- Angry supporters of a disqualified New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bawku Central parliamentary aspirant on Thursday vandalized the constituency office of the Party. Mr. Mohammed Tahiru Nambe, one of three NPP applicants was disqualified for filing his nomination papers a day after the deadline. The supporters of Mr. Nambe, a final year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) allegedly stormed the office, exchanged words with the constituency secretary Mr. Abdulai Tamimu, assaulted him and vandalized the office. Mr. Tamimu in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) denied the allegations and said interested persons were all given equal opportunity and enough time to file their nominations. "The constituency office was working in accordance with directives from the National secretariat", he said Mr. Tamimu said Mr. Nambe came for the nomination forms on May four, which was the closing date, and that he was informed about it. The Constituency Secretary said he gave the assurance that he would be able to submit the forms before the deadline. He said Mr. Nambe did not submit the forms as promised and when he was again reminded on the telephone he agreed to meet the secretary at the Regional Secretariat in Bolgatanga to submit all the nominations papers. Mr. Nambe failed to turn up at Bolgatanga. The Constituency Secretary said when he returned to Bawku that evening, Mr. Nambe brought his forms, which were rejected with the advice that he should send them to the Regional Secretary. He said he did not hear from Mr. Nambe until Thursday when he came with some supporters to attack him.
