Elmina (C/R), May 20, GNA- A 35-year-old mason who allegedly poisoned his two and a half year-old son, because he did not want to cater for him, was on Thursday remanded in custody when he was provisionally charged with murder.
The plea of Charles Amoah, from Abee village near Elmina, was not taken and he would appear again on June 3.
Chief Inspector of Police Keyward Adjei, told the court that marriage between Amoah and his son's mother, broke down about two years ago, as a result of which he refused to cater for the child. He said Amoah's former wife, reported his conduct to the Women And Juvenile Unit (WAJU), and the case was sent to court for resolution, and he was asked to pay 50,000 cedis a month for the child's upkeep. Chief Inspector Adjei said on May 10, this year, Amoah went to his former wife's house looking for his son, but he was told that the child had left for school at Ntranoa, near Elmina, with some of his schoolmates.
The prosecution said Amoah chased his son and pushed something he was holding, into the child's mouth.
On arrival at the school, the boy immediately began vomiting, foaming at the mouth and defecating simultaneously. The child was rushed to the central regional hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival, Chief Inspector Adjei said.
